Okay, so I’m trying to set up a new mesh network at home and I’ve hit a weird snag. My main router is fine, but when I plug in the first satellite node, my phone just refuses to see the extended network at all, even though the node’s light says it’s connected. I’ve power cycled everything twice. Has anyone else run into this kind of thing where one device just acts blind to the new signal?
That moment when the satellite shows as connected yet the phone just ignores the extended mesh network feels almost mischievous from the hardware gods
Could be channels and backhaul mismatching so the phone only sees the main router while the mesh network hides the extended SSID
Maybe the satellite is connecting to a different band and your phone is set to prefer 2.4 GHz so it misses the 5 GHz extended signal in this mesh network
I am skeptical that the phone alone is to blame in a mesh network sometimes these setups need a full reset on the satellite to push a new network name
Maybe the point is not two devices but what counts as connected the phone may show the old cached network while the mesh network is new
Open the router admin page and verify the satellite is in the same mesh network and the extended SSID is being broadcast
In the bigger idea of a mesh network the signal is a web not a single thread so your phone may be chasing a phantom beacon
