Full Version: Why does my phone battery shut off at 30% and reboot with the same charge?

So I’ve been using my phone for a couple of years now and the battery just doesn’t last like it used to, which I guess is normal. But lately it’s started doing this weird thing where it’ll be at, say, 30% and then just shut off completely, and it won’t turn back on unless I plug it in. Once it’s plugged in, it boots up showing that same 30% charge. Has anyone else had this happen? I’m wondering if it’s a sign the battery is truly on its last legs or if it could be some kind of software calibration issue.
That sounds rough I get how annoying it is to see a phone die at 30 and only wake up when you plug it in The battery still has life but the readout seems wrong
Could be a calibration thing The indicator showing 30 may not reflect the real charge This happens with older phones where the battery health sinks and the software loses track
Would you try a full cycle of charge If you can use the phone until it dies then charge to full and see if the behavior shifts?
On the other hand perhaps the battery is aging and it is nearing the end of life The signs you describe are pretty classic for a failing pack
Sometimes a software update glitched the battery readout in which case a reset of settings or a fresh install can fix it
If the phone runs hot or you notice swelling take it to a repair shop and have the battery checked those symptoms are not trivial
A broader note is that battery health matters more than the current percent its a reminder that devices evolve with wear and one day the model you have may just negotiate energy differently
