I’ve had this weird pressure in my ears for a couple months now, like I’m constantly needing to pop them but I can’t. My doctor mentioned eustachian tube dysfunction as a possibility, but it doesn’t really get better or worse, it’s just always there. I’m just wondering if anyone else has dealt with something that just feels like a permanent, dull ear fullness.
That sounds really uncomfortable. ear fullness that sticks around for months can wear you down physically and mentally. I’ve known folks who described it as a constant pressure you can’t shake, even without real pain. For a lot of people it sits in the background until something changes, and that makes it feel endless.
From a more analytic angle, chronic ear fullness is often labeled as Eustachian tube dysfunction, but there are other plausible factors—seasonal allergies, sinus issues, reflux, or even jaw tension that creates a similar pressure. If there’s muffled hearing, tinnitus, or balance trouble along with the fullness, a clinician might want to check more specifically. Keeping an eye on trends, like relation to colds or air pressure events, can help map it out.
Seems odd to me that it stays the same day to day. ear fullness like this can be a baseline sensation from a minor, stubborn thing or it could be your body adapting to something else entirely. Maybe a misinterpreted signal from your ear paired with stress. It’s easy to assume one fixed cause, but it might be multiple layers.
Reframing it a bit: what if the issue isn’t a single culprit but a signal from your system about mucus, hydration, and sleep position? ear fullness could be the downstream effect of several small inputs rather than a single diagnosis.
I had something similar after a cold; it lingered for weeks and then eased with humid air and slower breathing. ear fullness can stubbornly stick around even when other symptoms fade, which is frustrating.
Have you noticed it getting worse with altitude changes or during allergy season? ear fullness that flares with those factors might help clue in how to approach it, whether with reassurance or targeted tests.
