So I just got my first diesel car, a used Golf, and I’m trying to wrap my head around the real-world costs. Everyone talks about the great mileage, but then there’s the whole AdBlue thing, which I’d never even heard of before. I’m wondering if the fuel savings are actually eaten up by these other expenses, especially with how much I drive for work.
It's not obvious the diesel edge stays when AdBlue costs and occasional sensor bills bite back on a heavy work commute
Take real world mpg numbers and add AdBlue top ups and possible DPF service costs you may find the savings are smaller than the sticker suggests
AdBlue anxiety plus the fear of surprise repairs makes the glove box feel heavy even if the mpg looks good
I kept thinking AdBlue was a fuel additive that makes your tank last longer I guess I misunderstood then learned its for exhaust aftertreatment
Maybe we should measure total cost of ownership not just savings per litre what about insurance tax resale and maintenance when it comes to diesel do you factor that in?
I drive a lot for work and I tried logging all costs for six months fuel AdBlue wear parts it helped me see the bigger picture
