Full Version: How do I tell if that water under my truck is condensate or a leak?

Hey folks, I’ve got a weird one with my old truck. The other day after a short drive, I noticed a small puddle of what looked like clear water under the middle of the vehicle, right behind the front wheels. It doesn’t smell like coolant or feel oily, and the reservoir level hasn’t dropped. I’m just wondering if this is normal condensation from the air conditioning system or something I should actually be worried about.
That puddle sounds like condensation from the air conditioning after a short drive It should be clear and odorless and usually drips from a drain line under the dash
If you think it is condensation from the AC it would not affect coolant level The water should be clean and not sticky and there would be a small steady drip only when the AC runs
I would avoid assuming a big leak until you see more signs Could you see a small drain tube under the dash that carries condensation away?
I am a bit skeptical It is easy to worry about a puddle but condensation is common and if it comes from the AC drain tube you would see it more often after hot days
Reframing the framing If the question is is it condensation or something else maybe the bigger thing to consider is where the water ends up and whether the puddle tells you about drainage paths in the chassis
A short pragmatic note That puddle being clear water could be condensation from the AC but to be sure run the AC and watch where it drips and check for any change in coolant level later
