I’ve been using the same note-taking app for years, but lately I feel like it’s holding me back instead of helping me think. My notes end up scattered and I waste time just organizing instead of actually working. Has anyone else hit a wall with their tools and found something that just flows better for messy, creative projects?
I feel you the friction drains energy I ditched the note-taking app for a day and just dumped ideas into a single notebook then a plain text file the shift was jarring but it let ideas flow again what if the real problem was the tool not the mind
The issue may be cognitive load you end up burning energy to organize instead of think a system that separates capture from structuring often helps you move forward rather than stall later a tool that lets you batch capture then revisit with a light structure might work
You want flow for messy projects do you need more chaos or more speed maybe start with tiny captures like five lines per idea and no fixed plan see what sticks
Tools are often blamed for workflow not the habit you already have chasing a unicorn of effortless flow is rare without some discipline
What if the frame is the issue not the tool if the goal is messy drafting then a ritual that treats notes as living sketches and a loose pass later to shape them could be the move
As a writer I think in scenes not files I use a rough index card vibe and a single umbrella file where scraps live in a loose order that keeps vibe and pace even if the end product is chaos
I just dump everything into a single plain text file when I want to go fast not pretty but I can shape later without fighting the interface
