So I’ve been trying to make more of my own music to share, but I keep hitting this weird wall where everything I make just sounds like a copy of what I already love. I’ll start a track feeling good, then halfway through I just think “who even needs this?” It’s like I’m adding to the noise instead of making something that actually matters. Has anyone else gotten totally stuck in that feeling?
Yeah I totally get that wall you hit with music it starts as a spark and ends up sounding like a rerun of ideas you already love you are not alone.
From a craft angle music often stalls when you are chasing taste without testing new constraints try setting a tiny rule like swap a drum kit or flip a melody into a new key and see what shifts without judging it too soon.
Maybe you are soaking up too much of your favorite music and that is okay it means you know what you love but give yourself a playful permit to borrow a vibe from a totally different genre in music and see what sticks.
Maybe the problem is the self critique is loud while the rough version is still a draft in music and you are asking for a finished thing too soon.
Instead of chasing novelty try reframing the aim in music not to prove you can reinvent the wheel but to carry a line from a favorite track into a new mood or setting and see if that makes you listen differently.
Could you try a quick exercise in music where you cut a track at the midpoint and replace one element with something alien to your ear what would that feel like?
