I’ve been replaying some older RPGs lately and I keep hitting this wall where the combat just feels like a tedious chore between story bits. I just started one that’s supposed to have a legendary story, but I’m spending most of my time grinding through repetitive encounters. Does anyone else get completely pulled out of the experience by that? I’m wondering if I should just drop the difficulty down to story mode and forget about it.
I get why the grind burns you out the pacing grinds on and the legendary tale can feel far away when you are looping the same fights
From a design view the problem is friction in progression the game hides the reward behind too many filler encounters you could try a quick break or switch to a different mode to test the flow
Maybe the game is pushing gear chase over myth chase are you chasing fresh loot while the story waits in the wings?
I am skeptical about the idea of story mode it might just soften any real challenge and you end up losing the texture of combat
What if the wall is less about the fights and more about pacing a short quiet scene could actually reset your bearings and sharpen the mood of the legendary arc
I like the idea of narratively leaning on characters and setup the game might reward patience over quick wins
If you read the vibe of the legend it is about risk and escape the grind could be a sign you are not in the right rhythm for you story mode could tilt the balance but that changes the frame
