So I’ve been staring at this logo project for a client in the wellness space, and I can’t decide if the subtle gradient I added to the main symbol actually elevates the design or just makes it feel trendy in a cheap way. I’m really wrestling with when a visual detail becomes a distracting gimmick instead of a meaningful enhancement.
I get the tug of it. a subtle gradient can feel quiet and refined and still read as cheap on some screens if it competes with the symbol's shape.
Think about legibility in black and white and in small sizes. gradients can blur at reduced scales and you may lose crisp edges that give the symbol its identity.
The wellness space often rewards simple honesty over flashy tricks so maybe you lean into a clean flat mark and reserve the gradient as a brand tide not a daily habit.
Im not convinced the gradient is adding meaning it could be a habit from a design trend that fades quick and makes the work feel louder than the idea.
What if the question is more about how much texture the symbol carries and what the gradient says about the brand mood rather than yes or no
Make two micro variants and show them side by side to a colleague who knows nothing about the brief to surface instinctive reactions.
If the client cares about calm energy what color range signals that and does the gradient support it or distract from it
