I’ve been trying to switch from Evernote for ages, but every alternative I test feels clunky or misses some small feature I rely on. I’m currently giving Obsidian a serious shot for my personal knowledge base, and while I love how it connects ideas, the mobile sync setup has me a bit stuck. I just can’t tell if I’m overcomplicating it or if this is just how it’s meant to be.
I hear you. switching away from Evernote is a real friction test and Obsidian on mobile can feel off. the big win is the idea links but the setup bites back when you are on the go.
Take a step back and map the actions you do most often on mobile the problem may not be the app but the flow Obsidian can run local files and you can choose a syncing path that matches your day to day edits
Sometimes we expect mobile to behave like a perfectly polished desk side tool so the friction feels bigger than it is Obsidian does a lot of work in the background and the mobile view runs on a different rhythm
Maybe the whole search for a flawless switch is overhyped If Evernote served you well you might not owe a dramatic upgrade the fit is the real thing not the tool
What if the issue is how you describe what you want to the system not the system itself The idea of a personal knowledge base is not a single app but a rhythm you set for notes and links
Another angle is to write the plan for a week with one topic per day Then see how Obsidian helps you connect those days without forcing a full repack of your history
Do you think trimming the feature set to essentials would help you breathe and test if the mobile sync becomes a friend or still a hurdle with Obsidian?
