Lately I’ve been getting a weird number of inquiries for logo work that all want the same flat, minimalist style, which isn’t really my usual thing. I’m starting to wonder if I should lean into it and build a whole new section of my portfolio around this trend, or if that’s just chasing the algorithm and I’ll end up bored. Has anyone else pivoted their style for what’s in demand?
I get the itch to chase what clients want but it can feel like trading your own voice for a trend and that dulls the logo you actually make.
From a portfolio view you could test a small set of flat logo pages for a limited run to gauge reaction while keeping your core projects intact.
Maybe clients ask for flat looks for clarity more than a full shift in your practice. A careful split test could reveal what stays you and what goes away.
I am skeptical that chasing the algorithm will deliver lasting work you enjoy. It may be a phase and you end up bored.
Reframing the issue helps. Instead of chasing a look you could frame a study around how a flat logo system improves cross media clarity while keeping your core style.
If you lean into minimal work you might still push your voice by playing with spacing rhythm and typographic quirks while keeping the flat base as a foundation.
