I’m thinking about trying a local board game night I saw posted at the library. I’ve never gone to something like that alone, and I’m a bit worried it might be awkward if everyone already knows each other. How do these things usually start?
I went to a local game night at the library last month and I was nervous walking in, but the host waved me over to a table and explained what was happening. People introduced themselves and after the first game it was easier to join another round.
Just show up a bit early, grab a seat at a table that looks casual, and try to ask someone to explain the basics. I did that and nobody cared about my rank or whatever.
I get the idea, but it always sounds safer than it is. Do these nights actually mix people or do the same folks end up at the same tables?
If you go, pick a newbie friendly table, ask to learn as you go, and don’t sweat if you mess up a turn. The library folks usually help you get settled.
One time I went and stuck with a cooperative game because it felt easier to follow, but I left before the last round because I got bored.
I am thinking about trying one too maybe we could trade notes if we end up there and see what we think
