I’ve been running my small home goods store for about a year now, mostly through Instagram and a basic website. I’m hitting a point where I feel like I need a more solid platform to handle inventory and sales as things grow, but I’m completely stuck on which direction to go. The idea of migrating everything over feels daunting, and I keep hearing different things about which platforms are actually worth the monthly cost for a one-person operation like mine.
Yeah the idea of migrating everything is intimidating. For a one person shop the goal is fewer steps not more gear. inventory is the part that hurts when you scale, so maybe pick something that handles stock and orders without too much extra fuss.
It sounds like every platform promises a miracle. I would question the premise and keep an eye on fees and quirks. What do you actually sell most and how do you source?
I'm in a rush here and maybe this is lazy but I kept things simple and it worked for a while. If you can keep your IG flow and just add a small cart link rather than a complete swap that might help.
I ran a similar shop and kept it low key with a basic site and a few automations. The trick was to update inventory in real time as orders came in so I didn't lose track.
Maybe a mid range setup is enough not a full rebuild. It may feel heavy but you can test a small subset of products and see if it handles inventory and orders without dragging you down.
A practical move could be to map your processes before you move. Write down the steps you actually do now and pick a tool that covers those pieces without waste. If you keep testing you may spot the real pain in the flow.
