So I’ve been doing the same basic strength routine for over a year now, and while I’m definitely stronger, I feel like my progress has completely stalled. I keep hearing people talk about periodization, but honestly, the whole idea of planning my training in these structured blocks just seems overwhelming. How do you even start fitting that into a regular life without it taking over?
Periodization feels heavy but you can start small by adding a single week block every few weeks instead of rewriting your whole routine
I tried that idea and ended up ignoring the plan too much, so I keep a loose calendar with three day splits and a couple notes
If life is busy just commit to one variable change at a time like adding reps in a single movement or shaving a single set each week
I was skeptical about periodization at first but keeping simple notes helps me see what actually changes
Maybe your stall is not the plan but recovery or sleep and stress carrying over into workouts
Four week blocks with the main lifts and a little tweak in tempo or rest days can be enough to spark something without taking over your schedule
Track one metric like the amount you can lift or the number of reps to spot small gains without worrying about the grand scheme
