Okay, so I just finished the latest episode of that fantasy isekai everyone's talking about, and I'm left with this weird feeling. The main character is so overpowered that every challenge just evaporates, and I realized I'm not really feeling excited for what happens next. I'm starting to wonder if I'm just getting tired of the whole "overpowered protagonist" trope in general. Has anyone else hit a point with a genre you usually love where it just starts to feel flat?
Yeah, that overload of OP vibes can really drain the fun. I binge watched an isekai recently and the fights looked flashy, but the outcome always felt preordained.
OP isekai removes narrative tension by eliminating uncertainty, which kills dopamine anticipation
Sometimes a decent rival or a botched plan is all you need to feel something again, even if the world is cool.
I stuck with a show because the world building was slick, but the main character kept defaulting to mythic power and I started tuning out.
Could be burnout from nonstop power fantasies, a slower, more character driven arc might click later.
I wonder if a shift in tone could bring you back, or maybe you’re simply tired of the trope.
