I’ve been trying to get my home network setup to handle consistent 4K streaming across three TVs without any buffering, especially during peak hours when my kids are also gaming online. My current setup is an older router from my ISP, and I keep hitting a wall where the signal strength drops significantly in the far bedroom, making movies practically unwatchable. I’m considering a major upgrade to a **mesh wifi system** to blanket the whole house, but I’m stuck on the trade-offs. I live in a two-story, 2,800 square foot home with some plaster walls that I know are tricky for signals. My main constraint is budget—I’d like to stay under $300 if possible, but I also don’t want to cheap out and end up with the same problems. I need something that can prioritize traffic smartly so that a video call for work isn’t ruined by a sudden large game update downloading. I’ve read reviews until my eyes cross, but real-world experience would be great. Has anyone made a similar jump to a mesh system and found it truly solved these kinds of dead zone and congestion issues without being a nightmare to configure for someone who’s tech-savvy but not a professional?
Similar footprint here: I upgraded to a Deco X60 3-pack for about $250 and finally got solid 4K across all three TVs with fewer buffering moments. The app-based QoS lets me protect a work call during the kids' gaming, and a wired backhaul to nearby nodes helps with plaster walls. Setup was painless.
