I’m trying to get a realistic handle on my monthly budget as I look at trading in my old SUV for something more efficient, maybe a compact crossover like a Honda CR-V or a Toyota RAV4. The advertised MPG figures always seem so optimistic, and my commute is a real mix of stop-and-start city traffic and a short stretch of highway. I found a Car fuel economy calculator online that lets you input your own gas prices and driving patterns, which seems more useful than the window sticker. But I’m curious how accurate these tools really are in the real world, especially when you factor in things like using the air conditioning or carrying passengers. It’s making me wonder if I should just stick to looking at diesel options instead, even though the upfront cost is higher.
