I've mastered the basic origami folds and a few simple models, and now I'm looking for some new origami project ideas to challenge myself. Everything I find online is either way too complex for my skill level or just another variation of a crane. Are there good intermediate patterns that actually teach you a new technique, not just more steps?
Nice goal and the move that helps most is choosing projects that teach a new technique rather than just adding steps Look for models that require a squash fold or a sink and practice that move in context
Think in bases first then model overall look A pattern that uses the rabbit ear base or bird base and then applies it in a new way gives you real toolbox progress rather than repeating the same shape
Pick three patterns that each teach a different technique and treat them as mini lessons For example one model that uses a petal fold one that uses inside reverse folds and one that uses a squash fold Track what changes in how the piece looks
Im skeptical that you can get a lot out of a few patterns if you just want variety Maybe you just need a set of goals and a plan to practice each technique for a bit before moving on
Ask a friend or look for a guide that labels the technique taught by each pattern When you pick a model also note which skill it trains and why it helps your next project
If you want I can propose a short list of intermediate patterns and the technique each teaches tailored to the kinds of models you like Share what you enjoy and your current level and I will tailor it
