Full Version: Windows startup slow how to diagnose without technical details?

My Windows laptop has started running really slow lately, especially when I first turn it on. Is there a simple way to figure out what's causing it without getting too technical?
Yep startup slowdowns happen; start with the Task Manager startup tab.
Open Ctrl+Shift+Esc, switch to the Startup tab, and disable items with high impact you don’t need at boot. Reboot and check if it’s faster. If it’s still slow, glance at Disk and CPU columns in Processes to spot the obvious culprits.
Next, check storage and scan for malware. Make sure you have at least 15–20% free space on C; a full drive slows boot. Run a quick Windows Defender scan to rule out malware and install any pending Windows updates. If you still see slow startup, try a clean boot to identify third party software as the bottleneck.
Here’s a simple plan you can actually follow. Decide if the slowness is at startup or all the time. Open Task Manager, Startup tab, and disable unneeded items. If the disk stays active at boot, check the Disk column in Processes. Free up space, run Disk Cleanup, and ensure Windows and drivers are up to date. If nothing helps, do a clean boot and reintroduce items to find the culprit. Last resort: reset Windows or upgrade hardware like an SSD.
