Scope management is one of the most critical skills in game development. I've seen so many projects fail due to poor scope management. The key lesson I've learned is to define your minimum viable product first, then add features if time allows.
Another important aspect of scope management is learning to say no, even to your own ideas. Not every cool feature needs to be in the current project.
Regular scope reviews are also essential. What seemed feasible at the start of a project might not be realistic three months in, and you need to adjust accordingly.
What game development scope management techniques have worked best for you?
