My team needs a simple internal app for tracking requests. I've been looking at a no-code platform to build it quickly. For something this straightforward, is it better to start from a template or build from a blank page?
Templates usually win for speed, but blank pages give you total control.
If you want this going fast, start with a template and customize the fields, statuses, and who can see what. It saves time with drag and drop builders and helps you map a simple workflow, but watch out for hidden constraints if you later need something unusual.
Think through the core data first. A good template can lock in a sane default workflow that moves from new to in progress to done and sensible roles. If you start blank you will end up building that anyway but you will pay in time. Use the no code drag and drop to lay out a form and a list view, then add automations like a simple alert when the status changes. Keep it lean at first and you can add fields later.
Beyond the basics plan governance for an internal requests app. You will want a tight data schema with fields like Request ID Title Description Requester Assignee Created At Due Date Priority Status Category and Attachments. Set up views like a board for status and a searchable list. Forms should be clean and quick to fill. Automations such as notify on new or changed status and gentle reminders work well. When picking a no code platform check drag and drop ease and also ask about permissions audit logs and data export. A template can get you up and running but you will thank yourself later if you can switch to blank later or customize fields without breaking the workflow. Run a one week pilot with a small team and collect feedback.
If you are unsure start with a template and plan a quick cleanup sprint after a week.
