I’ve been trying to get my head around a persistent issue with my home network, specifically with my mesh Wi-Fi setup. I have a three-node system covering my two-story house, and while the signal strength is generally good, I keep experiencing random drop-offs on certain devices, especially my work laptop and my partner’s phone. We both work from home, so a stable connection is critical. I’ve already tried the basics like rebooting the main router, checking for firmware updates, and even repositioning one of the satellite nodes, but the problem seems to come and go without a clear pattern. I’m wondering if it’s an issue with channel interference from neighbors, a setting I’ve overlooked in the admin panel, or perhaps some devices just don’t play nice with the seamless roaming that mesh networks are supposed to provide. I’m hesitant to just buy another extender or a completely new system without understanding the root cause, as I’ve already invested a fair amount. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of frustrating inconsistency in their mesh Wi-Fi performance and found a reliable fix?
I've dealt with this too. In my setup I fixed it by wiring backhaul between the main node and at least one satellite to cut wireless contention, and by giving the work laptop a fixed 5 GHz SSID so it doesn't roam too aggressively. I also tested turning off fast roaming to confirm, then re-enabled with conservative settings.
