I'm trying to create a small, self-contained hydroponic system for growing leafy greens inside a repurposed, narrow IKEA cabinet in my apartment, as I have no balcony and very limited natural light. My budget is under $200, and I plan to use a simple PVC pipe setup with a small submersible pump, LED grow lights, and a basic timer, but I'm struggling with the nutrient solution balance and preventing algae growth in the clear tubing without using harsh chemicals. The cabinet is only about 18 inches deep and 5 feet tall, and I need the system to be relatively quiet and low-odor so it doesn't disturb my downstairs neighbors or make my living room smell like a farm. I have about a month to get this operational before I need to start seeds for a continuous harvest.
