I've taken on the project of converting a decommissioned, 12-foot aluminum fishing boat into a small, floating garden and seating area for a community pond. The hull is sound but bare, and my plan is to create a waterproof planter box that fits snugly inside it, filled with soil and native marginal plants that will help filter the water. My total budget is only about $150, and I'm limited to hand tools and materials I can transport in my small car. The main challenge is designing a stable, soil-retaining structure that won't puncture the thin aluminum hull or make the boat too top-heavy and unstable on the water, and I need to have it ready to launch before the growing season ends in about six weeks. I'm unsure about the best way to secure the interior frame without drilling into the hull and potentially causing leaks.
