I'm designing the user interface for a financial analytics dashboard aimed at professionals, and I'm stuck on the color palette. I understand basic color theory, but I'm struggling to apply it practically—I need a scheme that is accessible, conveys data hierarchy effectively, and maintains a serious, trustworthy tone, but my attempts feel either too clinical or too playful. How do other UI/UX designers working in B2B or data-heavy applications approach color selection? Do you start with a foundational palette and derive all UI colors from it, and what tools or methods do you use to test for both contrast and emotional impact?
