I've been trying to buy a PS5 for months, checking every major retailer's site and following a few stock alert accounts, but I always seem to miss the restock by minutes. The bots and scalpers are incredibly frustrating, and I'm starting to wonder if there's a better strategy than just refreshing pages randomly. Has anyone had recent success with a specific retailer's waiting list or a particular time of day when drops seem to happen more reliably? I'm just trying to get one at retail price for my kid's birthday next month.
You're not imagining it—bots do make restocks rough. The smarter path is to sign up for official waitlists and set stock alerts on a few retailers, not just hit refresh mindlessly.
From recent drops, PlayStation Direct invites and Walmart have been hit or miss, but when they pop, they go fast. Local time matters; often mornings or late evenings see activity, but it's not consistent. Set alerts across Sony Direct, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and even Costco if you're lucky.
Set yourself up for a real shot: have accounts logged in with payment method prefilled, shipping addresses saved, and two-factor authentication ready. Use multiple devices (phone, tablet, computer) and watch for 'add to cart' links in social posts from retailers.
Don't trust scalper marketplaces; even if you snag one, you risk counterfeit or inflated price. Consider PS5 Digital Edition as a cheaper alternative or wait for a bigger restock wave, sometimes bundles are the only option but check resale value.
One pattern that helped me recently: subscribe to retailer newsletters and join any 'private' waitlist they offer. A drop can come via email code or special link. Also consider aiming for a known restock window—some channels release in the first hour after midnight in certain zones, but it varies.
City/region would help me tailor a plan. If you tell me your country, time zone, and whether you want disc or digital edition, I can suggest specific retailers and typical drop times to watch.
