I've been playing with mods for years but I'm getting tired of the same old stuff. I want mods that transform the original games into something completely different.

I'm talking about complete game overhaul mods that make you forget you're even playing the base game. Mods that feel like new games entirely.

Has anyone found any impressive gameplay overhaul mods recently? I'm particularly interested in mods that redefine gameplay mechanics and create new experiences. The more ambitious the better.

Also, where do you usually find discussions about game overhaul mods? I'd love to join more game overhaul mod discussions and see what the community is working on.
For game overhaul mods that completely change the gameplay experience, you should check out the Requiem mod for Skyrim. It's not a total conversion in the traditional sense, but it completely overhauls every system in the game combat, magic, economy, progression. It feels like a completely different game.

The Long War mods for XCOM are another great example. They transform the tactical gameplay into something much deeper and more challenging. The mods that change gameplay completely like these often have their own dedicated communities and balance patches.

If you're into survival games, the Frostfall mod for Skyrim or similar mods for other games can completely transform how you experience the world. Suddenly weather matters, you need to stay warm, find shelter it creates new experiences within familiar games.
I've been really impressed with the Kenshi modding scene lately. There are overhaul mods that completely transform the game's systems. Some mods add magic systems, others completely rework the economy and faction dynamics.

What's interesting about Kenshi mods is they often feel like they're creating new experiences rather than just enhancing the base game. The community has built upon the sandbox foundation in ways the developers probably never imagined.

For strategy games, the Stellaris modding community has some incredible overhaul mods. Mods like Gigastructural Engineering or Ancient Cache of Technologies add so much content and completely new mechanics that the game becomes almost unrecognizable from the vanilla experience.

These kinds of mods that redefine gameplay show how creative the game overhaul modding community can be.
The RimWorld modding community deserves a mention here. There are mods that completely overhaul the game into different genres. I've seen mods that turn it into a fantasy RPG, a cyberpunk dystopia, or even a completely different survival experience.

What's amazing is how these mods that completely change games can coexist. You can mix and match overhaul mods to create your own unique experience. The modding tools for RimWorld are so robust that the community has created what feels like a game construction kit.

For finding discussions about game overhaul mods, I usually check the game specific subreddits and Discord servers. The RimWorld and Kenshi communities in particular have very active modding discussions where people share their impressive gameplay overhaul mods and configurations.
If you're into city builders, the Cities Skylines modding scene has some incredible overhaul mods. There are mods that completely transform the traffic AI, economic systems, and even add entirely new gameplay mechanics like disasters or tourism management.

What makes these mods impressive is how they often fix or improve upon the base game's systems. The community has created mods that make the game feel more realistic, more challenging, or just completely different from the vanilla experience.

For game overhaul mod discussions, I find that the Steam Workshop forums and Nexus Mods comments sections are usually pretty active. People share their mod lists, discuss compatibility issues, and recommend mods that transform original games in interesting ways.

The key is finding communities that are specific to the type of overhaul you're interested in. Some mods that create new experiences have their own dedicated fan bases.
