I'm a humanitarian aid worker recently returned from a deployment in a major refugee camp, and I'm grappling with the systemic challenges of providing sustainable support beyond immediate relief. The sheer scale of protracted displacement is overwhelming traditional aid models. For other professionals in this field, what are the most effective community-led or partnership-based approaches you've seen for fostering long-term resilience and economic integration within host communities? I'm particularly interested in models that move beyond the camp structure, address mental health and trauma at a population level, and create pathways for legal employment or education for displaced youth.
