I'm the newly appointed head of strategy for a mid-sized manufacturing firm, and I'm tasked with leading our first formal five-year strategic planning process to navigate supply chain diversification and potential market contraction. The executive team is aligned on high-level goals, but translating them into actionable, cross-departmental initiatives with clear metrics is proving difficult. For other strategy professionals, what frameworks or facilitation techniques have you found most effective for moving from vision to execution? How do you build buy-in from operational leaders who are skeptical of "ivory tower" planning, and what are your methods for creating a living strategic plan that is reviewed and adapted quarterly rather than sitting on a shelf? I'm also struggling with scenario planning for external shocks.
