I'm a new rider preparing for my first long-distance motorcycle trip on my mid-weight adventure bike, and I need to replace the stock tires. I'm overwhelmed by the choice between dedicated touring tires, which promise longevity, and more aggressive 50/50 on/off-road tires, which would better suit the occasional gravel forest road I might encounter. For experienced touring riders, what tire models have you found offer the best compromise for primarily paved highway miles with the flexibility for unpaved detours? How significant is the real-world mileage difference, and what pressure adjustments do you recommend for heavily loaded luggage? I'm also unsure if I should attempt the tire change myself or pay for professional mounting.
