I just rewatched the original trilogy from my childhood and then the recent legacy sequel, and I'm fascinated by how it attempts to both honor the past and pass the torch to a new generation. While I appreciate the nostalgia, I felt the new film struggled to give its older characters meaningful arcs beyond fan service. For other fans of the genre, what do you think makes a legacy sequel truly successful rather than just a hollow homage? Is it more important to deconstruct the original's themes or to continue them faithfully? How do you feel about recasting iconic roles versus using digital de-aging, and are there any recent examples you think perfectly balanced reverence with fresh storytelling?
