I'm a teaching assistant for a large undergraduate psychology course, and I'm spending an inordinate amount of time correcting APA citation style guidelines in student papers, especially for online sources, datasets, and social media references that aren't clearly covered in the 7th edition manual. For other instructors or academic editors, what are your most effective strategies for teaching APA formatting beyond just providing the manual? Do you use any specific checklists, automated tools, or annotated example papers that students find helpful? How do you handle ambiguous cases like citing a pre-print article, a podcast episode, or a government report accessed online, and what common misconceptions about in-text citations and reference lists do you find you have to correct most frequently?
