Full Version: How to solo Fire Giant phase 2 with a slow heavy weapon?

I'm completely stuck on the Fire Giant in Elden Ring and could use some specific strategy advice. I'm playing a strength-focused build with a Colossal Greatsword, and I can reliably get through the first phase, but the second phase just destroys me with his rolling attacks and the massive AOE fire spells. For players who have beaten him with a similar slow, heavy weapon, what was your approach to positioning and timing your attacks? Are there any particular talismans or consumables that made a significant difference, and is it better to stay locked on or fight him unlocked? I've tried summoning help, but I'd really prefer to learn the fight solo if possible.
Here's what worked for me solo with a Colossal Greatsword, after banging my head on phase 2 for a few evenings. In phase 2 I stuck to his left side and tried to stay in the gap between his leg and his torso so most of his sweeping attacks miss you. When he finishes a big fire breath or a rolling attack, that’s your moment to drop in 1–2 heavy swings, then back off to reset stamina. Don’t chase him and don’t stay in front; the moment you’re too close to the flame you’re overcommitted. It’s a patience game: land a couple of clean hits, back away, let the next opening present itself, then go again. If you can string a couple of these cycles, you’ll chip him down without getting roasted.
