I'm considering buying that new open-world RPG that just launched, but I'm hesitant after being burned by several hyped releases that were buggy at launch. I've read the major video game reviews, which are generally positive but mention performance issues on PC and a somewhat repetitive end-game. I'm looking for impressions from players who have put a solid 20+ hours into it—specifically, how bad are the technical problems, is the story engaging enough to carry the gameplay loop, and does the world feel alive or just filled with checklist activities?
Put about 25 hours into it on PC. There were a few launch quirks—graphics hitching and a crash or two early on—but patches since then have smoothed things out. The story hooks me more than I expected, and the world feels surprisingly alive—NPCs react to day/night, ambient wildlife, and the side quests sometimes branch in nice ways. The end-game loops aren’t revolutionary, but exploring map regions and doing varied side content keeps the pacing from getting stale.
I’ve logged around 22 hours on PC with a mid-range GPU. With DLSS on balanced and a few settings tweaked, performance is pretty solid in most areas; occasionally a stutter in dense towns, but nothing game-breaking. The narrative is engaging enough to carry the exploration, and I actually like how the world responds to your choices—you’ll see small but meaningful differences depending on what you do early on. End-game feels a bit repetitive if you only chase the main quest, but there are multiple faction/building hooks that mix things up.
Personally, the technical issues circled me early: some texture pop-in, long load times on first entering zones, and the occasional framerate dip during big battles. Since patches, those are much rarer. The story has some memorable beats and character moments; the world is big and varied—deserts, forests, cities—each with its own vibe. I did a lot of optional dungeons and side missions; that variety helps avoid feeling like it's just a checklist. If you can tolerate some rough edges at launch and you enjoy exploration, it’s worth sticking with.
Just to temper expectations: I think a lot of 'end-game is repetitive' takes come from wanting a big, sweeping narrative as the only hook. The game does give you long-tail activities (crafting, reputation quests, faction alignment) that can be rewarding beyond the main story if you lean into them. It’s not perfect, but it isn’t just mindless fetch quests either.
What platform are you on and what kind of hardware? Are you more concerned about performance or story, and do you plan to wait for patches? Also any specific aspects you’re worried will ruin your experience (bugs, balancing, or end-game grind)?
If you’re on PC and have the time window, I’d say grab it now but set expectations: you’ll probably hit a few rough edges at launch. If you’re sensitive to bugs or prefer polished experiences, wait for a few patches or a sale; otherwise, the core vibe is solid.
