I'm the marketing director for a US-based B2B SaaS company that's saturated our domestic market, and the leadership team is pushing for aggressive international growth next year. We're evaluating market expansion strategies, specifically whether to prioritize the UK or Australia first, given the cultural and regulatory similarities. My concern is whether to adapt our product and messaging significantly for the initial launch or to test with a minimal localization approach to conserve resources and move faster.
Good question. My quick approach is to run a decision framework with 4 pillars: Market potential (TAM, CAGR), Regulatory/compliance barriers (privacy, data localization), GTM feasibility (existing reps, channel fit), Localization cost and speed (UI, docs, support). Score 1–5, then run a lean pilot in each market with minimal localization (country-specific messaging and pricing) and measure 60–90 day outcomes (MQLs, conversions, support tickets). If you need to move fast, prioritize a shorter, <90-day test rather than a longer push.
