Full Version: Should I follow the 10k synthetic oil guideline or shorten it for my 2018 SUV?

I recently bought a used 2018 crossover SUV, and the owner's manual recommends an oil change interval of every 10,000 miles or 12 months with synthetic oil. However, the previous owner told me they changed it every 5,000 miles "to be safe," and my mechanic also suggested shorter intervals. I do mostly city driving with some short trips. For other owners of modern vehicles, what factors do you actually consider when deciding on your oil change interval, and is there a downside to changing synthetic oil more frequently than the manufacturer suggests?
