I've recently been promoted to a product marketing role at a fintech startup, and a key part of my new responsibility is building a systematic competitive intelligence program from the ground up. Right now, our knowledge of competitors is ad-hoc and based on random sales team feedback. I need to establish a framework for consistently tracking their feature releases, pricing changes, and messaging. For professionals in this area, what tools and processes have you found most effective for gathering and disseminating actionable competitive insights across sales, product, and leadership teams without it becoming a time-consuming research black hole?
Good call. Start with a lean framework: pick 4–6 competitors, 3 focus signals (pricing, features, messaging/go-to-market), and run a biweekly digest. Centralize all intel in a simple database (Airtable or Notion) and push a short Slack recap every Friday. Assign owners, establish a 'signal' score (high/medium/low), and set a 6–12 week pilot to prove ROI.
