I'm an intermediate painter working primarily with acrylics, and I'm trying to master techniques for creating smoother blends and more luminous glazes, as my paintings often look muddy or flat when I layer colors. I understand the theory of glazing, but in practice, my layers either become too opaque or pick up the paint underneath. For artists experienced with acrylic glazing and blending, what specific medium-to-paint ratios and drying times do you work with, and what is your process for building up transparent layers without losing vibrancy or creating a chalky finish?
