I'm a 3D animator working on a short film and have my character's walk cycle looking mechanically correct, but it lacks any personality or weight. I'm struggling to push the poses and timing beyond the basics to convey a specific emotion—this character is meant to be weary and cautious. For animators focused on storytelling, what techniques do you use to inject character and feeling into a fundamental action like a walk, and how do you reference and apply real-life observation without just copying it directly?
