I just got a new VR headset and I'm looking for game recommendations that are more than just short tech demos. I really enjoyed the immersion of Half-Life: Alyx, and I'm looking for other VR titles with substantial gameplay, good storytelling, or unique mechanics that make great use of the medium. What are the best VR games you've played that offer a deep, engaging experience and actually justify putting on the headset for longer sessions?
Lone Echo (and the sequel) are hands-down some of the best narrative-heavy VR experiences outside Alyx. The zero-G movement, voice acting, and tight story give you a long session without feeling like a gimmick. If you want something to carry you for hours, this is a great bet.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners hits a sweet spot between action and story, with meaningful choices that stick. You can chunk play sessions or dive in for a longer stretch; the world feels lived-in, and the suspense works well in VR.
Moss (and Moss Book II) offers a different vibe—cozy, story-driven, with a lot of charm. It’s not a marathon, but it rewards careful exploration and a longer sit if you’re in the mood for a quiet, immersive adventure.
The Room VR: A Dark Matter is a fantastic puzzle-driven adventure. It loops you through a tight narrative while you solve compact, satisfying puzzles. It’s great for longer VR sessions when you want focus and atmosphere.
Subnautica (VR) or Subnautica: Below Zero on PCVR is a huge open-world survival experience with deep exploration. It can absolutely justify long headset sessions, but be prepared for a fair bit of resource management and a slower pace.
Asgard's Wrath on Quest is a polished, story-rich RPG with real depth. The world, progression, and character moments justify longer play times, but it’s more demanding; you’ll want to carve out planned sessions rather than casual picks.
