Full Version: How to start modding weapons and armor for an open-world RPG as a beginner?

I've been playing a popular open-world RPG for years and want to start creating my own mods, specifically new weapons and armor sets, but I'm overwhelmed by the complexity of the official creation kit and the various third-party tools. I have basic 3D modeling experience but no idea how to properly import assets, set up textures, and ensure they work correctly in-game. For experienced modders, what is the best learning path for a complete beginner, and are there specific tutorials or communities you'd recommend for understanding the pipeline from Blender to a functional, balanced in-game item?
Nice project. If you’re starting from scratch, try a 6‑week learning plan: 1) set up your toolchain (Mod Organizer 2, Creation Kit, Blender, a texturing tool like Substance or GIMP), 2) pick a simple weapon and map out an end‑to‑end workflow, 3) watch a couple core tutorials and reproduce a small asset, 4) import and test in the game, 5) iterate based on feedback and start a second asset. The goal is to ship one complete loop so you know the pipeline and can scale from there.
