I'm a high school science teacher trying to move away from last-minute cramming before exams and integrate more evidence-based study strategies into my classroom. I've been reading about the benefits of retrieval practice, but I'm struggling to design effective, low-stakes quizzes and activities that genuinely reinforce long-term learning without just feeling like more busywork or adding to my grading load. For educators who have successfully implemented this, what specific formats—like brain dumps, frequent mini-quizzes, or peer teaching—have you found most engaging for students and manageable for you, and how did you structure them to cover cumulative material without sacrificing time needed to teach new concepts? I want to build these habits into my daily routine.
