I'm a moderately experienced DIYer who has done basic maintenance on my sedan, but I'm hearing a high-pitched squealing from the front wheels that I'm pretty sure means it's time for a brake pad replacement. I've watched a few tutorials and feel confident about the pad swap itself, but I'm nervous about properly retracting the caliper pistons, especially since my car has an electronic parking brake, and I don't want to damage the system. For those who have tackled this job on modern cars with similar setups, what specific precautions or tools did you need? I'm also unsure about whether I should automatically replace the rotors or if I can have them resurfaced, and what the best method is for bedding in the new pads to avoid noise and ensure optimal performance from the start.
