I'm a recent art school graduate preparing my first professional art portfolio to apply for concept artist positions in the game industry, and I'm overwhelmed by how to curate and present my work effectively. I have a large body of personal projects and class assignments, but I'm unsure which pieces to include, how to group them into cohesive projects, and what narrative to build across the portfolio. For artists who have successfully landed industry jobs, what specific criteria do hiring managers and art directors look for when reviewing a portfolio, and how did you tailor yours to tell a compelling story about your skills and interests? I'm also struggling with the technical aspects, like image resolution, website platform choice, and whether to include process work or only finished pieces.
